On Sunday November 2, I attended Self-Help Graphics’ 41st annual Dia de Los Muertos: Una Cita con La Vida event in my residing neighborhood of Boyle Heights. It was an evening full of artistic activities, food, outreach and music. I found that it could've been important to have an informative booth explaining the cultural significance of this practice. The interest in entertainment was dominant over the significance of helping those who have transgress to another cycle of their life through ofrendas (altar offering). I was happy to see coalition among artist, community members, activist, singers, dancers and even the Los Angeles 1st district supervisor, Gloria Molina; in addition to other important allies of the Latino/a Chicano/a community that are open to learning about our culture and express interest in taking part in its celebrations.  Overall, it was a great event and a fun study-break that was free and accessible.
