Week 4: Martha Ramirez
I really enjoyed Pablo Simental's presentation on Martha Ramirez. I personally know Martha. I was an archive intern at SPARC (Social Public Art Resource Center) that was founded by famous Chicana artist Judy Baca, and Marth Ramirez was one of the staff/teachers there. I've was lucky enough to engage in conversations with Martha many times and I always found how warm and compassionate she is. She is naturally loving and supporting and understands what a struggle it is to be a xicana student. I always knew she was an artist, but she was humble in the sense that she never bragged about her art. That is why I enjoyed Pablo Simental's presentation on her because he gave me more knowledge on how amazing of an artist Martha is. The reflection of language Martha presents on indigenous language as well as indigenous traditions are central to her art practice and understanding of the world.
