Felicia 'Fe' Montes - "Where You From?"

Youtube Blurb: "Short Black & White video of various peoples with shaved heads -- titled: "Where you from?" Inspired by Salomon Huerta's paintings but pushing it to video and other circles. Focuses on assumptions, identity, image, etc."

Below: two images by Salomon Huerta

This past quarter, I found myself hating on rapper, Iggy Azalea, often and (perhaps) unjustly. At one point, I recognized what I was doing and challenged myself to try writing a few raps. Who am I to hate on Iggy for being a rapper, if I don't even write my own raps? To be fair, I had no room to judge. Writing raps was not easy - though, I learned that I absolutely love spoken word poetry. The reason why I mention this, at all, is because I am inspired by Fe's work. I think it's dope for an artist to expand beyond a canvas and paints, into different types of art. The video posted above is inspired by Salomon Huerta's art, which is posted below the video. The video shows the back of someone's head for a few seconds, before the person turns and reveals his/her face. A caption on the bottom right corner tells the viewer who this person is - an educator, a cancer survivor, a homeboy, an artist. I appreciate the message that this video sends; it really did made me think twice about my Iggy-hating.
