Week 10: Last Post

I would first like to comment on my experience and what I have learned personally in the class before I dive into what I have learned about the material in the class. I found this class to be very eye opening because I have always considered myself as an American and really nothing more. Although my family comes from Mexico, my family and I have taken United States tradition and ideology and adopted them as our own. I was born here Texas and the history I speak about is the history of the United States of America.  Even though I am aware and conscious of my Mexican heritage I still hold but really one identity; that I am a citizen of this great nation and am proud to call myself an American.
This class quickly became one of my favorite classes because I love art and love to draw. The fact that we had to create an art book made this class even more special to me. This is one of the few classes that the subject material would always stick with me because every Chicana artist we spoke about was unique in their own way. I believe as professor Lopez once said, that the really interesting art work is created by artist who are dealing with the conflicting that they hold inside of them and the more you explore these different identities and greater the work would be. Many of the Chicana artists we spoke about did just that. I would never forget this class and the funny moments during class.
