Torres, Juan

Hello, I am Juan Torres and I am a new undergraduate student at UCLA. I am a transfer student from College of the Canyons in Valencia, California. I am majoring in Psychology, and want to pursue a career in clinical psychology. Clinical psychologists diagnose, and help treat individual’s with mental disorders. Psychology has always been my passion and I am happy to be here at UCLA!
My interest in this course stems from me being Mexican and Peruvian, as well as the interest I picked up when I took an art history course at my previous community college. I am not too knowledgeable about art but I hope to learn about the many Chicana artists. I am excited to be creating art in this class that ties within our studies. Although I am not an artist or draw, when I was younger I loved to draw and be creative. I am sure that this class will help bring out the creativity I once had with art when I was younger.
I do have experience with virgin Guadalupe from my childhood. My grandmother tried to explain certain concepts to me from the bible that included Virgin Mary. I remember seeing her around from my family as well as family friends in the form of jewelry or pictures in homes, as well as candles that I have seen at stores and at sites where someone passed away. Although I was young and did not understand who she was or what she represented, I’ll never forget the image of her.
