Linda Vallejo is a talented artist that visits UCLA often to present her work for students. She caught my attention through presentations she's given in a few of my Chicana/o classes where she describes her reasoning behind her sculptures and paintings. Her work is very influential to many women of color because she decolonizes the views of women in the media. She does this by transforming public icons, dolls, and disney characters into indigenous figures. This is the blog for the UCLA Chicanx Latinx Art and Artists course offered by the Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicanx Central American Studies (CCAS M175, also Art M184 and World Arts and Cultures M128). This course provides a historical and contemporary overview of Chicanx Latinx art production with an emphasis on painting, photography, prints, murals and activist art.
