Hi
everyone! My name is JiHee and I am a fourth year Gender studies major. I
transferred from Irvine Valley College last year so this is my second year at
UCLA. While looking for classes to take in fall, I came across Chicana Art
and Artists and immediately decided that I wanted to take it.
Ever since I was little, my favorite subject was art and my interest in art kept growing and growing which lead me to take a few art courses in my community college. Although I do not know any Chicana art and artists, I am pretty excited to learn about them in class. I am also super excited about the art project because the last time I had drawn and decorated anything for school was in elementary school.

I grew up
in Irvine and I moved to Los Angeles two years ago for UCLA. Before doing the
readings on Virgen de Guadalupe in class, I did not have any knowledge of her;
however, I knew I have seen her many times around Los Angeles. Whether it was
on the wall or on a candle, she was a familiar figure to me as an art. Now,
learning about her in class allowed me to gain a new perspective of seeing
Chicana art and who she is and what meaning she has to people. Throughout the
course I hope I get to learn more about other Chicana art and artists! By the way, I accidentally bought two Moleskine notebooks so if anyone needs one for $16 let me know :)
