Carmen Lomas Garza drawing
After analyzing and observing several of Carmen Lomas Garza's art pieces, I decided to recreate a drawing of one the photographs my cousins and I took while preparing tamales for our Thanksgiving dinner. In this image, we are all gathered around the kitchen table and making tamales while enjoying one another's company. All the ingredients, including las hojas, chiles, and queso are set on the table and we are sitting around making each tamal. I decided to recreate this specific photographic moment because it visually represents one my favorite family traditions. This drawing demonstrates our family gatherings and how we come together to prepare our family meals on holidays. Furthermore, this image shows our culture and family's traditional practices during the holiday seasons and how we all come together to enjoy meals and family time. Many of Carmen Lomas Garza's illustrations are centered around the concept of family and friends. She puts a lot of detail into her images and illustrates her family and friends celebrating and having a good time. Similar to her artwork, this image has a tremendous amount of detail among the characters, food ingredients, and overall setting. The details in this drawing are important because the represent one of the activities that brings my family together during the holidays.
