In my mind I had only known about three Chicana artists: Patssi Valdez, Ester Hernandez, and Judy Baca. I can proudly say that I know at least 15 names of Chicana artists. When I think about day one of the class and my place in it now, I think, that I wouldn't have ever considered dropping the course because I have gotten the opportunity to know and discover female artists whom I didn't know existed and the power of their art..
Going back to day one of the hand drawings, I am very happy to see the tremendous progression of the shading, shape, detail, and the overall outcome of the hands. This makes me happy because I had never been able to draw hands before and now looking at my drawings, I think that I have done a pretty decent job in working with my hands.
Art speaks to me in a very deep and passionate level so I'm very glad to have been able to be a part of this entire endeavor. This course has become my favorite course yet taken at UCLA and I am glad to have been a part of this experience. I look forward to the exhibition, I am so glad I decided to stay in this class otherwise I may not know what I know about the topic of Chicana art and artists.
