Garduno,Samantha

Hey everyone, :) My name is Samantha Garduno, but I preferred to be called Sam. I am a third year English/ Chicanx studies major and film minor. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I grew up in Huntington Park which is in Southeast Los Angeles. Huntington Park is a Latinx community; the community itself helped me develop my sense of identity as Chicanx activist. I learned what is meant to be an activist and importance to be active in Latinx communities. Chicanx/Latinx/Black Art has become a political statement that I want to research and learned more about it. Individual’s creativeness is a form of resisting society expectations and the white hegemony. I surround myself with creative Latinx artist who are now my best friends. I admire their work and the thought that’s behind their art work. I appreciate art and vulnerability that comes along with it. Artist of color are showing a piece of them to a large audience. It is important to educate ourselves about how art is a tool for people of color’s creativeness and consciousness.

I think of myself as a creative person trying to use different formats to express myself and the things that I see in my environment. I love writing and how it is an art as well. I’m grateful to be part of this class and learning  more about Chicanx artist that have made an impact to Chicanx history and communities.
