2020HernandezJennifer

Hello all! I will start off with my married name is Jennifer Annette Hernandez but I was born Jennifer Annette Morales. My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I usually go by Jen but I am not super picky about what I am called as long as it’s not negative. I am a senior trying to obtain my double major in Chicano/a studies and Sociology. I was born in Torrance California to an immigrant parent and a non-immigrant parent. I was moved to Houston Texas at age 7 (not by choice) and returned back to my home state at age 23.
I watched the struggle my Dad had as an immigrant trying to survive here in the "Norte" for 20 years before he finally became a citizen. Watching his struggle, I knew that I did not want to end up letting my kids watch me struggle from job to job so I decided to start community college and somehow made it all the way to UCLA. I am very proud of myself and how far I’ve gotten to reach some of my life goals. My ultimate career goal is to become a counselor for inmates. Particularly woman and youth that are incarcerated. I hope to be the person that encourages people in jail to change their lives around and to study to make a positive impact on the world around them. I have taken a class with Professor Lopez's partner and was really interested in seeing how the two differ in their lectures.
