Hi, my name is Adan Martinez. My pronouns are he/him/his. I am a second year Biochemistry major and I am unsure if I want to minor in anything else. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles I was always exposed to Chicana/o history due to my school being founded in response to the Watts Riots of 1965. I decided not to major in Chicana/o because I felt that I only had an interest in the field but not a passion strong enough to pursue a degree in. I really love art and in fact somedays just randomly start to draw or doodle out of boredom although my art skills are not the best. So I am very excited for this course because I really love art and I really want to know more Chicana artist as well as their passionate work.
I have not done any research but I was able to work for Univision over the summer in the Bay Area for a small experimental internship program where a small group of interns, me included, worked to create a 360° video to draw attention to the bill AB 626 that allows micro-kitchens to exist. Micro-kitchens are basically people that sell food from their homes. My group had four weeks to create a virtual reality experience that was informative, immersive, and would humanize the Latinx people that would be benefit from this bill being passed in different California Counties. In the future I hope to use my Biochemisty degree to study addiction and possibly help find a less addictive form of pain relief.
