Gutierrez, Kimberly (Magdalena Suarez Frimkess Abstract)

Magadalena Suarez Frimkess & Michael Frimkess by The Hammer Museum

In a 2014 exhibition curated by the Hammer Museum, they exhibited the work of Magdalena Suarez Frimkess and her partner Michael Frimkess that explored using pottery from a traditional lens,  incorporating Native Americans and Aztec representations. Around the late 1970s, she then shifted her focus to creating pots as well as sculptures of cartoon characters and pieces of advertisements. She collaborates with her husband, Michael who is also a ceramist and has been working together since 1963. Their collaboration constitutes creative funding for their art projects. They share a studio together where Michael throws pottery in a traditional manner as Magdalena glazes each pot strikingly.
