Brenda Barrios Week 7 Claudia Zapata

The reading “Chicanx Graphics in the Digital Age” by Claudia Zapata was about artists in particular Chicana artists and digital arts. The reading discusses the digital arts how they are connected to showing prints, illustrations.  Also brings up accessibility again because, in reality, digital arts can be more accessible for others not only for audiences for creators also because art materials overall are expensive, and working with digital can be considered cheaper for some people that’s why they choose digital art. The reading also made me reflect on my personal practice how more accessible it was for me to create digital art. And this can now be considered fine art because I feel digital art similar to graffiti, screen printing, and folk was seen as low and kitsch and not fine art and it’s interesting because mainly POC were the ones creating arts in those mediums.

I also liked they discussed Alma Lopez’s work as a pioneer piece and artists for Chicanx graphics because it really was using digital edits was probably not seen as credible even more so back then. I think people have now grown to appreciate digital art. Although the piece Our Lady was controversial I think ultimately it change the art scene and how women are seen as creating art as well because previously I think women artists were not taken as seriously.
