The Virgin Mary is someone whom my mom has always prayed to and believed in. When we migrated to the United States my mom came not knowing anyone but she always resorted to her. Growing up we had multiple images of the Virgin Mary around the house. Whenever we faced hardships my mother would encourage me to pray with her to the Virgin Mary. My mother felt closer to her roots by displaying her, considering her mom also grew up with the similar ideals. She would constantly remind me that "La Virgencita" was looking after me whenever I went out. When my grandparents passed away she made her own ofrenda where she covered it with multiple Virgin Mary's to look out after them as well. My mom would also make me watch "La Rosa De Guadalupe" with her which is a show that demonstrates life lessons being resolved through the faith of the Virgin Mary. The show brings awareness to issues that happen throughout the world.
In Culiacan, Sinaloa there is a church I would go to and they had a Virgin Mary at the top of some stairs. People would kneel their way up the stairs and ask her for something they desired. I remember going on my knees and slowly going up a set of stairs aside my mom when I was younger. The experience was very memorable and it felt heart-warming to do it with my family. I remember feeling so empowered and confident that what I asked for would come true for me. Naturally, as I grew older the picture of the Virgin Mary brings comfort into my life. Although I am personally am not religious, it is heart warming to see her image because it brings back memories for me. By speaking to the Virgin Mary, it helped me practice manifestation and comfort growing up. Even though I did not realize when I was younger, once I got older I understood it was a great foundation to develop a relationship with myself.
