Among the images by Garmen Lomas Garza, Los Mesquites was the most interesting
one for me. It is the picture in which the human shapes are the part of the
trees to describe the dynamics of human relationships. I was impressed to
recognize that the tree is made of human shapes because I thought it was a
drawing of normal trees when I saw it first. The scenery of the image seems severe
where the soil is dry and the trees have no leaves, which is also emphasized
with the plain color. And the designs on the trees shows the complicated
relationships of human beings which come with change and regret as some find
new lovers and other lose them. Though the faces are not shown clearly in the
image, their postures and body languages explain their situations and feelings.
It seems like this image effectively combine the nature and human nature, by putting
the plain soil, bare trees, and naked human bodies together. As Garza pays
attention to the life and memory of the people, this image would also ask the
viewers what it means to them as the human relationship, especially love, is an
influential and large part of human life.
