I do not really know much about art and artist, but the one artist that I found incredibly fascinating was names Felicia Morales. She is a Xicana Indigenous artist, activist, performer, speaker and a practitioner of the healing art from East LA. She graduated from UCLA with a B.A in the World Arts and Cultures with a minor in Chicano/a Studies. Then a M.A in Chicano/a Studies from Cal State Northridge and a M.F.A from Otis College of Arts & Design in Public Practice Art. Felicia creates her work based on social and spiritual change as she works first hand in activism and organizing. Right now she is currently serves as the founding executive director of Mujeres de Maiz. On her website that I have encountered, she does photography, poems, digital imagery, and performance art like Huichola. I decided to choose this artist because ever since I had taken Chicano/a 10B last quarter, I have been interested in activism and speaking out for Chicanas and others like me. I have been interested in trying to make a change in my societies and speak out about the injustices that people like me face in this society. I also chose her because she is kind of like me; a Chicana trying to make a change in this world. This is the blog for the UCLA Chicanx Latinx Art and Artists course offered by the Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicanx Central American Studies (CCAS M175, also Art M184 and World Arts and Cultures M128). This course provides a historical and contemporary overview of Chicanx Latinx art production with an emphasis on painting, photography, prints, murals and activist art.
