Presentation: Natalia Anciso

Natalia Anciso

Civil (2013)Natalia Anciso is a Chicana-Tejana artist currently living in Oakland California who is revolutionizing the way contemporary art is perceived while simultaneously brining awareness to the lost history of the Tejanos. Her work brings together beautifully painted and vibrant colors, embroidery and pencil drawings which she displays on large fabric canvases.
Aniciso was while born in Mexico was raised in Austin Texas and eventually went on to earn her BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin. To continue her education, she moved halfway across the country to attend the California College of the Arts in San Francisco where she would earn her MFA with an emphasis in painting and drawing. Her education and upbringing are represented in her art though her take on color and realistic drawings that evoke emotion.
Her work has been displayed in museums like the San Jose Museum of Art, Movimiento de Arte y Culture Latino Americana of San Jose, and the Oakland Museum of California. Her work while being inspired is also making waves in the art community for its controversial nature.
I would love to research Natalia Anciso for this project because she is a woman of color who has found a way to use her talents as a form of protest and awareness for her culture. She is truly extremely talented and nothing short of inspiring.

  1. Natalia was my second choice, as I really love the contrast between the colorful, playful flowers and the sometimes heavy/dark-natured content being portrayed. I'm excited to hear more about her!
