Carmen Lomas Garza
I really enjoyed reading about Carmen Lomas Garza life and inspiration for her art work. In my opinion, her art is reminiscent of Frida Kahlo’s style, which I absolutely love. One of Carmen Lomas Garza’s art works, that I chose to write about in my paper and one that immediately stood out to me is her painting titled Tamalada(1985). This painting is one of many that is included in her Pedacito de mi Corazon series, which depict many of her childhood memories. In this painting, Lomas-Garza illustrates her family taking part a tamale making party. In this image, everyone has an important role in the process of making the tamales, from putting the meat on the masa, to cleaning and drying the corn husks, everyone is involved in the process. The process of making tamales is an essential part of growing up in a Mexican household and is one that have personally taken part of as a child and as an adult, which is why this image resonated with me. The composition and overall message of this image expresses unity and collaboration, and the coming together of family to take part in an important Mexican tradition.

I found it interesting how you mentioned that Carmen Lomas Garza's art is reminiscent to that of Frida Kahlo's art. When I first learned about Carmen Lomas Garza, I never thought about the similarities between both of the artist. But after viewing both of the artists art work, I can see how the theme and vibrant colors are much alike. Yet each artist is unique in their own way.
ReplyDeleteHello Gracie, very interesting comparison between Carmen Lomas Garza and Frida Kahlo's artwork. I hadn't really paid attention to the similarity that they both share. The image you chose to write about is very relatable because I, too, have taken part of the tamale making chain.
