Reflection Post
In retrospect, I'm really glad I decided to join this class. Not only have I learned more about a subject that is often times not discussed, I learned valuable art skills that have helped improved my skills. I think having a professor that is invested in the subject and her students really adds meaning to the information that we learn. I really think the concept of having an individual sketchbook really allows for creativity to shine and claim something that is unique to us. Among the different artists we read about and learn an enormous amount of information about, I think the student presentations on Chicana Artists, especially those that are not well known was very informative and most rewarding. I think its important to know about Chicana Artists', but also about the ones that are new or not as famous. Before this class I thought an artist only encompassed painters, but I learned that there a variety of different art forms. For instance, installations and photography. This class has enable me to view art with an academic lens and value all types of art. I also feel more impelled to visit museums and galleries to appreciate art and I hope that I can one day create art to help inform people about important topics. If given the chance in the future, I will definitely enroll in another multi listed Chicana/Art class to advance my knowledge on the subject but also contribute everything I learn in the class this quarter.

I really enjoyed the sketchbook project as well. I'm not an artist, but it was a way in which I was allowed to explore some skills and engage with the material in a way I haven't done so in any other class. I also am really glad I took this class.
ReplyDeleteHi Brandon,
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with what you pointed out in your reflection post. I, too, feel more impelled to pay museums and galleries visits in hope of learning more about art and the artistic community.
