This class was very enjoyable and at times challenging, but I was happy to learn about Chicana/Latina artist. At the begging, I couldn’t name more than three artists but as the class progressed, I learned a lot not only about the different artist but also about different styles. I truly enjoyed the creative project. In the beginning, I was extremely averse to the idea of having to draw for the class because I had never done it before nor did I think I could. My first drawings were really bad because I didn’t believe I was capable of tracing more than lines and circles. But, as I started really trying and taking off the pressure of having to draw something good, I suddenly started getting a little better than I thought. I really enjoyed drawing the hands and just having fun with the pencil. The most challenging part was the portrait which didn’t come out too good but I was proud of at least trying. Also, I really had a good time doing the piece inspired by an artist. It was nice to know that we had the freedom to choose what to do.
One thing that impacted me the most was seeing how a lot of my classmates are extremely talented. I really enjoyed watching all their work on the last day we presented our sketchbooks. It was so great to see how some folks were very creative about their last pieces. It was almost like walking into a small gallery and seeing all that beautiful artwork. I feel this class not only provided is with academic knowledge but also with practical one because we were able to get hands-on experience by drawing on our sketchbooks. I really appreciated this class because it is not very often that one gets to have fun at the same time that we learn.
