2020AdameChelssea

My name is Chelssea Adame and I am currently a third year Chicanx Studies Major and education minor. I am a first generation student and live in a predominantly Mexican and Chicanx community. I am taking this course because I am interested in how people use art as a tool to express their struggles, daily lives, and social change. Though I was surrounded by people of color, my school did not teach students anything apart from the traditional academic courses. It was not until I began taking courses in Chicanx, African American, and Labor Studies courses in UCLA that I began to learn more about other communities. I hope to gain more knowledge and educate myself in regards to Chicana and Latina Artists. Whether it be photography, street art, paintings, etc., these different art mediums can be transformed into powerful political messages. I am interested to see how art can bring about discussions about one’s community, social economic status, immigration, police brutality, equal rights, etc.
