Yolanda M. Lopez: Untitled
Yolanda Lopez seems to be one of the funnier artist of this class and that is something that I really enjoyed. I was delighted to realize that I was able to laugh while reading about some of her artwork when reading her book. This piece of artwork is what's something that I enjoyed a lot when I was reading the book. It was one of her pieces in her color Xerox collages and while I was reading the book this piece caught my eye immediately. It wasn't so much hat I enjoyed it because it was beautiful or conveyed a deep message to me but rather that it was so funny. I love that she chose to integrate humor into her artwork rather than having all pieces look so serious. I think this is artwork was very important because it represented her view on gender roles. She showed that women can have more of a personality than they are allowed, they can make jokes just as men can rather than keeping a docile character she chose to be herself. Also this reminds me of something I do all the time with peoples photos. All jokes aside I think that although this photo/ work is funny it still compliments the other works she's done. I mean if she edited a face onto a donkey or maybe a doll I would be like WHATS HAPPENING! but she still includes the Virgin Guadalupe which is something she included in most of the work she so its ok. Overall all I ave to say is this photo really made me laugh and I enjoyed it a lot.
