The artist I would like to focus on is Favianna Rodriguez. Although I did not delve too deep into the artist's work, just the layout of her webpage and how they present their artwork was very reflective of how I wish I had the courage to present my work. Therefore, I am taking this assignment as inspiration to also release my work and not be afraid to start and continue my pieces.
This week's reading were really interesting. I very much like how broken down the CASA piece is, where it was shown how Chicana artist and participators were ignored and diminished to their biological contributions during el Movimiento. That machista lens is still prevalent today in different forms. A large public example is how female music artist gets treated and represented in media and what their content is meant to be about. Much like the Mujeres in el Movimiento Chicana artists wanted to decolonize the female body by transforming it into an active speaking subject than a passive object of display and male gratification. I believe that that is something that fem presenting artist do as well today, use their body as a landscape and their experiences as the paint/words/image - ultimately focus. I really liked how the author would go in and break down these pieces and breakdown what it meant coming from that specific artist and its inspiration from el Movimiento and its effect on the growing feminist ideals that some Chicanas held. I am excited to hear the author come and speak from her experiences and her work.
