Arrieta, Evelyn

My name is Evelyn Arrieta. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a 3rd year with a major in psychology. Something interesting about myself is that I am the first in my family to go to college and I am on track to graduate by Spring of 2021. It's been tough, but I'm almost there! I have taken a Day of the Dead Chicano class with Profesora Martha Ramirez-Oropeza in Fall 2019. It was such an amazing experience (I highly recommend that class) and it inspired me to take another Chicano class this quarter. I hope to become more aware about Chicano studies and more aware about the people who come from my community.
I have lived my entire life in Los Angeles, California. I went to high school in Miguel Contreras, the School of Social Justice. Fun Fact my high school was one of the many LAUSD schools to walk out after Donald Trump was elected as President. This has, consequently, compelled me to volunteer at many organizations relating to equal pay, women's rights, indigenous rights and more. Aside from that, I also have an interest in sports. I have been playing soccer for the past four years. Unfortunately, I do not play for UCLA, but that is ok. In senior year of high school, I ran the Los Angeles Marathon which was 26.2 miles so if you ever plan on doing it good luck because it takes a lot of time, training, and dedication.
Overall, I tend to be an open minded person which is why I am excited to learn about chicana art and artists!
