WEEK 6: STENCIL

For my stencil, I have decided to add art that represents all that I have been through since the beginning of my UCLA career. These past few years in the university has brought me to tears and laughter so I hope to properly represent my journey by adding my mother's favorite flowers (calla lily) with the words "Los Angeles" in the background. Surrounding the words and flower, I hope to wrap it all around with a rosario. This aspect of my stencil is important to me due to the fact that college brought me a lot closer to my parents religion. I do not consider myself as extremely catholic, but just the thought of knowing that someone is taking care of me in every step of my journey brings me comfort. Additionally, when I leave my mother after visiting, she always gives me a blessing and reminds me to pray and give thanks for the opportunities that I have been given. The reason for the words "Los Angeles" is to bring respect to the people I grew up with and for those who ended in the wrong path. They remind me to always remember that I grew up in the hood; To never forget where I come from because it is part of who I am. It is imperative for me to add the calla lily because my mother has emotionally struggled in various ways. My mother means the world to me so to have her favorite flowers shows that I am with her no matter how far the distance. In general, it symbolizes hope and love for my mother.
