For my stencil, I wanted it to be something that reminded me
of my home and my family. I first thought of doing one that was just the outline
of the state of Texas or the flag, but I did not think that it correctly
captured what I wanted it to mean. However, one of the things I miss most is
the food. The food here in California is so much different than in Texas. I
often find myself craving the food I grew up eating. For the past two years I have
been spending a lot of time during the summers in Texas with my grandparents
and my family calls it my annual “foodcation”. I save up to bring back spices
only sold at the grocery chain H-E-B and from chicken places where you can only
buy them exclusively in the restaurant.
I remember when I first moved to California, most of my
friends were jealous because I could eat In-n-Out whenever I wanted to. But I never
found a great fascination with it. So, after thinking about what I could stencil,
I decided upon the Texas state seal of approval for the Whataburger chain. The first
thing I always do when I get off the plane in San Antonio is go to Whataburger
with a rush of excitement because that is how I know I am home and in place of
happiness.
If it becomes to difficult to do the whole seal as the stencil,
then ill modify it by keeping the outer portion with writing and just the star
in the middle. It is probably going to be really complicated, but it is worth a shot.
