Week 9 Reflection
The course overall exposed me to so many voices and narratives that influence Latinx (if they identify), artist. The readings really tied into what I am learning in my Chicano10A course, and I love the connection that hxstory has and influences art. It proves that the self is political and we must fight for our community and recognize where and who controls power over policy and society. The class materials were always very interesting to read. The artists we read and wrote about over the quarter were very interesting and all had a unique perspective and reflection of their lives and communities hxstory. Their styles were all diverse and fluid, very connected to what they saw growing up. For me, reading and understanding this material brings a lot of comfort and visibility now seeing my experiences expressed in my education. IT'S SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING. I also really appreciate the time given to work o our sketchbooks during class and the activities that were done in them. I think the practice brought a lot of skill and growth to my basic knowledge of how to produce art and the patience that is required from it. I believe my ability to draw hands has exponentially grown and I love that, hands are really cool and important for me to draw- they are powerful energy my body has the privilege of having. I think throughout the course one of the things that really stood out to me is every artist's ability to express something in their art and the power and influence it had on me. I appreciate the time that was spent on presentations and the labor and commitment we put in as a class community in enjoying and learning about art!
