2021 Ayala Jesus

 Hello everyone,

My name is Jesus Ayala, I am a first-gen, transfer student, and non-traditional. This is my second quarter at UCLA. My pronouns are he, him, his. I am transferring from Cerritos College and live in Los Angeles in the city of Lynwood to be exact. I'm also a single father of a beautiful 13-year-old daughter.  I don't know how I feel about raising a now teen daughter, but I'm very proud to be her father.

I'm majoring in Sociology and I'm also thinking of minoring in Chicano Studies. This is the reason I'm taking this class. Also, I'm taking this class because I think It counts towards my Soc requirements. I thought it was interesting to know more about female Chicana artists because it's something you just don't see or hear. Ever since I was in community college Chicano Studies caught my attention and took a class here and there. I love to learn about the history of Chicanos in this country. I feel the message is very powerful and It's our turn to shine.

In regards to this weeks reading Printing and Collecting the Revolution, The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now by. E Carmen Ramos, art is a way to prove it's our time to shine. Art is used as a political and form of strength and gives Chicanas a voice. After taking a Chicano theater class last quarter at UCLA, it proves that Chicanos/s have endured so much in this country but their resilience always proves them successful. I learned how theater was used as a voice for the voiceless.

I look forward to learning more about my people this quarter and being proud to be Chicano. After all,

Chicano is the meaning of political change.
