Snow, Kendall- Week 2 discussion

After reading the journal,“!Printing the Revolution!: The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now, by Claudia Zapata”, I developed the question “Why was graphics and the printing press so important for Chicana artists?” Graphics and the printing press were very important for Chicano artists in many ways and changed the art world. First, the printing press was and still is important for artists because it became a new way for artists to get their art out. They now did not need to make a tons of the same art, the can just copy it. This was more effective and a faster way to get their art out so more people can see it. Second, with graphics, artist can now print their art on newspapers, magazines, or on books which also gets their art more known. They can also use other media outlets such as online newspapers, websites, and other social media outlets like instagram or facebook. The article states that these new inventions have not changed the way artists do art, but it has rather enhanced the experience and spreads the artist messages faster. These new ways just give the artists more options for what they want to do with it. Graphic design also makes it so artists to not have to do anything with a pencil or their hands, they can make digital art which also opened the door for new creative Chicana art and a new way to express their views or messages.
