Stephanie Godoy Wiki Artist

Stephanie Godoy is a Latina artist in California who specializes in painting people who have have achieved their goals and dreams with determination as well as work representing her environment in East Los Angeles. She was born and raised in El Monte, California. Her parents are from Mexico and her family came here two months before she was born. She attended Moreno Valley College as well as California State University Los Angeles where graduated in 2018 with a bachelors in Studio Art.

Godoy focuses on contemporary art with portraits of people mainly using oil paint. Some of her portraits include Breonna Taylor in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement, everyday people she interacts with, and some social activist figures from the past. Her posters memorializing people during the Black Lives Matter movement are also widely known. She is also known for creating murals using abstract colors of images like the Virgen de Guadalupe and Juan Diego. She creates pieces that tend to represent her roots and culture. Other pieces demonstrate the social justice issues surrounding Latinos. An example would be her piece on Mariachi Crossing that defends the Latino people who make up the neighborhood of Boyle Heights. She used this piece to demonstrate how the Latino people make up what that neighborhood is and has become since the 1930's, and therefore they should not be kicked out of this space for financial gain.
