week 3: artist (Destiny Lopez)

Destiny Lopez is an independent self taught artists who was born in Los Angeles, California. She is an AfroLatinx, Cuban-American who currently resides and makes art out of the Kumeeyay lands of San Diego.  In her free time she enjoys swap meets, cafes, mojitios and shopping at Michaels. When it comes to art, Destiny is mostly inspired by cultures, human bodies, and color theory. At first she started making art and selling it as an undergrad to make some extra money to support her bills. Her art is Black, Brown, Queer, Love, Reflective, Growing, and Collective. Below is shown Destiny next to a piece she recently created named "We are here". This piece was made in collaboration with a costume store named whips n furs as you can see it right outside of the building. This painting was made to honor the vibrancy of the Queer community, and Black Queer owned businesses.

Personally I know Destiny because we went to the same middle school and high school in the south bay area of Los Angeles. We have always been great friends until she moved to Fontana California during our junior year of high school. Although I have not seen her since 2014 I have supported her art through her instagram @ifiqueart. Her art is also available for sale on her website ifiqueart.com

Destiny Lopez has had her art featured in many public places such as Starbucks, UCSD, and other businesses in San Diego. Below is the art piece I wanted to show named, "Body Heat". Destiny offers many pieces however this caught my eye the most because it shows the human body in its purest form, from a thermal lens showing not only the features of the body but its temperature as well.
