Yanin Ruibal is a Latina artist from Sonora, but is now based in Mexico City. Her pieces are illustrations and paintings that are very vibrant. Ruibal was battling Lyme disease and her paintings let her get through that. Her pieces often show what is inside humans or their hidden softness and pains, but what is inside of us, often comes out. A lot of animals are also seen in her work. "Her work overflows with lushness" and uses a lot of floral aspects with a "uniquely Mexican understanding of vivid color". Most people will find it surprising that most of her illustrations are done with only using a Bic pen.
