La Virgen de Guadalupe
Growing up in Mexicao, Lavirgen de Guadalupe was almost more important than Jesus. I never did pay attention to the importance she had in the life of our family as well as many othe families in Mexico. It has been very interesting to learn other perspectives and see her image in a different light. I left Mexico very young, before I could understand the effect that colonialism had had in our culture. So I never really questioned the teaching that had been passed on to me fro generations before me. Once I removed myself from the catholic church I only considered La Virgen to be a made up character to control el pueblo de Mexico. I was very focused on how repressive the church is and the psychological violence that it has caused to generations. Learning about the possible role it might have had in the survival of generations, ignites more curiosity to learn more about her story.
