Growing up, I was used to seeing the Virgin Mary around my house and family. My parents would buy my siblings and I Virgin Mary jewelry and it was something that we would never take off. In my parents room they had a picture frame of the Virgin Mary and it was decorated with lights and flowers. Every Sunday, my dad buys fresh new flowers for the virgin Mary and it’s been a routine ever since I can remember. Every December 12th, I grew up watching my parents wake up early to pay homage to the Virgin Mary. She was someone who I would look up to and respect very deeply from a young age.
Every time, my family was going through a rough patch, they would pray to the Virgin Mary. My dad didn’t always completely believe in the Virgin Mary but one time, my dad was having car issues and when he was on the freeway he lost control and in that moment he began to pray to the Virgin Mary. Ever since my dad has been a firm believer. I was moved by my dad’s experience with the Virgin Mary and I am a firm believer as well.I grew up watching La Rose de Guadalupe, which is a show that consists of reenactments of real life stories. My mom and I would watch La Rosa de Guadalupe every afternoon and we would just discuss life lessons and the miracles of the virgin Mary. I still watch the show every once in a while and I always learn something new. I also grew up watching movies about the Virgin Mary’s story with my family.
Being part of a catholic family, I grew up with the Virgin Mary being a part of our daily lives. Pictures and little Virgin statues were a part of our house. The Virgin Mary has been very influential and motivational and she will always be a part of my life.
