For this week’s artists presentation, II choose is Irene Perez and is a muralist and a part of the collective Las Mujeres Muralists which is a San Francisco based collective and this muralist depicts a lot of indigenousness in one mural that states 500 years of Native survival shows awareness and the mural shows symbols of indigenous traits. Many of Perez's works are loaded with figures and there is no negative space; there is always somewhere you can look and you can spend hours looking at one mural. It is figurative and your ability to see linear figures and show some form of fiction with the large animals that appear to be cat people protesting and people singing with music while on the top hierarchy there are two figures appearing equal to each other and their serene and peaceful. This mural seems to be critiquing and most likely a commentary. It’s important when artists create work to make positive changes. Excited to see more work from these artists.
