WEEK 7, CLAUDIA ZAPATA ESSAY

In Claudia Zapatas essay. "The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now" we encounter a new and more modernized way of viewing art. In opposition to the normal paintings or drawings, we see a graphic illustration as a form of art.The ability to make such announcements has allowed for Chicanx artists to expand further and for their art to reach more people. Media Theoretician Oliver Grau has called the new advancement a tool to connect dialogue between artists with their media. The new graphics allow for communities to be able to interact and to reach more diverse audiences ultimately benefiting the artist and the audience.

Pictured below is Cesar Chavez and Barbara Carasco in Times Square, New York in 1989. This was one of the first pieces of digital marketing that was put out. While it may have been a risk and the outcome was unknown, It was perceived as a new form of art and was applauded by its audience. Following such graphics, is when the industry boosted in graphic design like that of Carrascos.

Barbara Carrasco participated In the public art funds outdoor computer animation series by the name of “Messages to the Public”

In this program, many were offered the opportunity to partner with computer programmers and to create new art that would later be on display in Times Square, New York.

The new form that digital graphics brings into the art world is that increasingly incorporates augmented reality technologies which create new and fresh visual experiences that often challenge and integrate the idea that they are focusing on.

Besides new graphic designs, the art world has also come to expand to virtual reality, more computer generated work.

While nothing compares to a physical piece, the carries the manual blood, sweat and tears of the artist and their hard work and dedication, art like everything is evolving.
