Week 3: Stencil Workshop

I chose a cut out by the famous fauvist known as Henri Matisse. His art can also be classified under impressionism and modernism. This piece right her is called Ancanthus and was created in 1953. This simple technique was what Matisse was known for. Combining a simple medium of paper and his main tool as scissors, he introduced to the modern art world an art style called the "Cut-out". He would cut painted sheets of paper into abstract forms which he then arranged into lively compositions and decorative strategies. I chose Matisse's cut-outs because as an art historian, I felt his art paralleled with the type of stencil Lopez wanted us to do as well as combine some part of me into the main pages of my notebook.
