Abedi, Lillian

Hello, my name is Lillian Abedi and I am a fourth year Gender Studies Major! I was born and raised in Glendale, CA and I transferred from Glendale Community College. I commute through the lovely 405 every morning to get to school. I have two jobs and work full time in addition to being a professional Armenian Ethnic dancer.

The reason I took this course is the same reason I am a GS major, I find it interesting how all minorities and communities face the same obstacles and hurdles but we don't realize that yes, we may speak different languages, but we are all saying the same thing. Courses that teach about other ethnicities always end up teaching me about my culture and helping bridge the gap between different communities. Ethnic backgrounds have a lot to do with Gender Studies because it helps explain why there is a divide between the sexes in all communities.

I come from a Christian home where I was taught how to pray when I was young and was Christened before I turned 6 months. I like to think I was lucky that I was never forced to believe in what my parents believed, I just got to live with all the amazing traditions that come along with it. My family never worshipped the cross, Jesus Christ or any other religious or non-religious figure so I never experienced what others may have with religion.
