Ortiz, Allison

Hello! My name is Allison Ortiz. I am a junior transfer student from Mount San Antonio College located in Walnut California. I was born in Glendale. I moved to Santa Clarita, then I moved to West Covina, and I am now currently living in Ontario California. I am studying Anthropology and I am considering minoring in Public Health and/or Chicano studies. I am the first in my family to go to college. My mother is Mexican and my father is Peruvian. I love food especially Mexican and Peruvian dishes. I love art, music, good books, going to cultural events, and gaining knowledge of other cultural customs.

I decided to take this course because I consider myself to be a Chicana and would love to know more about Chicana art. I am not sure exactly what Chicana/o art is and am very excited to be taking it for this quarter.

La virgin de Guadalupe was introduced to me at a very young age. Both my parents are catholic. My mother is a strong believer of la virgin and Catholicism. I was baptized as a baby and did my first communion as a teenager. La virgin de Guadalupe is deeply present in my home. In my home La virgin is hanged on a wall, on candles, and a sculpture of la virgin is present in my living room.
