Mirzakhanyan,Tina

Hello everyone! My name is Tina Mirzakhanyan. I am a third year transfer student. This is my first quarter at UCLA, and this is my first official "quarter" in general as well. I am a first generation Armenian-American and I am the first of my family to go to university. I am a pre-law student double majoring in Sociology and Gender Studies. My interest in the major grew when I realize I wanted to achieve a more intersectional systematic understanding of the differences that are placed on male and female counterparts. Sociology is a passion of mine because the social sciences allow us to have a more objective view based on empirical data. This is an interest of mine because it allows one to take prejudice and bias aside and come to conclusions based on factual data. Also, I think that by choosing to double major in two very intersectional objective fields I am allowing my self to be more open minded and systematical instead of opinionated.

This is the first course I have taken that involves the Chicana culture. I am interested in seeing what this course has to offer. Before this class, I wasn't really aware or informed of the Virgin of Guadalupe. However, I knew she played a religious role in the life of those who believed in her story. I always kind of just related her to "Virgin Mary", in a sense they are both female individuals that have miraculous stories. It was interesting to really learn and conceptualize the Iconography of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
