Blog Week 8: Natalia Anciso

This week's presentations displayed images of the works by Natalia Anciso. One of her works that stood out to me was Hermanos (2013) from her "Flor y Fauna Collection". The piece drawn in graphite and colored pencils depicts a man crying, holding his brother who lays dead. The image is a direct broadcast of the experience of immigrants who have lost a family member due to a shooting. It allows you to realize that the excuse or validation for killing immigrants is labeling them as illegal aliens which removes them of their humanity as people. Natalia Anciso depiction of the wailing brother mourning the loss of a brother returns the humanity that had been stripped away. Thus, the oppression created against immigrants is resisted by revealing a heightening of human emotions.
