Isis Rodriguez

The image presented this week that was very interesting to me is Isis Rodriguez’s Princessa painting. Isis was influenced to create this image after a personal experience she had encountered. While simply licking on a frozen banana in a public area, she never would have thought that it was something that depicted a type of sexual manner in the eyes of men around her.  Being just a young, innocent girl at the time, it is extremely disturbing to know that men grasp this type of sexual mentality with even just a young girl.

This image opened my eyes to the idea that females are constantly seen sexual figures through the eyes of males. In this case, Isis was an uncontrollable child who’s mind did not even cross the idea of expressing sex appeal towards men around her. Additionally, Isis was simply unaware that she was attracting men around her, thus leaving this poor and innocent girl in a state of confusion and embarrassment. However, I greatly admire the women empowerment that Isis brings into her work and it is something that is a very important matter within society. Overall, I believe that Isis Rodriguez does a well job of portraying the issues concerning female sexuality and politics within her work.
