"Don't Shoot"

“Don’t Shoot” by Natalia Anciso is a beautiful mixed media drawing of an innocent boy being targeted by militant police.  The piece is made from graphite pencil an prisma markers.  The boy is wearing a backpack so he is probably coming back from school, he surrenders and puts his hands up.  The crazy part of this drawing is how the police are very equipted with military gear.  They even have gas masks, as if the little boy is a terrorist.  I really like this picture because it is on point with police brutality and racial profiling.  Also it I like how its in black and white and color.  The black and white is the uncomfortable situation where the little boy is being targeted and the color is in the roses that surround the police tape. Probably the flowers surround the police tape as a way to give life to boundaries, but what does that even mean.  The police tape sets the boundary between the observers and the “criminal”, in this case the “criminal is innocent”, but anyways the police tape blocks off observers and who knows what the police can be hiding behind that police tape.  It could be their racist and militant intentions.
