Family Scene on Thanksgiving

Every year for thanksgiving, my whole family, including my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, gather at my aunt’s house. It has become a tradition for my aunt to host thanksgiving every year, where she does most of the cooking and some of us bring a dish or two as well. During this time, we all come together, enjoying one another’s company and being able to spend quality time with the whole family.

In the scene that I have drawn, it shows the Thanksgiving table with many different types of dishes. My drawing also includes a few of my family members who were gathered around the table, awaiting everyone else’s arrival in order to begin our Thanksgiving feast. Coming from a Persian culture, our Thanksgiving meal consists of both American food and Persian food. It is nice to combine the two together on Thanksgiving, as we try to include our Persian culture within an American holiday. While drawing this scene, I noticed that it greatly relates to Carmen Lomas Garza’s images of her and her family sitting around the dinner table. I can also relate to her images a sense of having the same family bond, as family is very important within my culture as well.
