Week 7: On Presentations

In the past two weeks there have been numerous and incredible artists presented that it was difficult to choose simply one. Therefore, I have chosen two artists presented from last week.

The first artist presented that stood out to me was Marion C. Martinez. The artists method of creating her works and then how she utilizes those works was what stood out the most to me. Martinez creates her works out of recycled materials given to her by donors. I really appreciated this because it demonstrates that garbage is not just garbage it can be reused in order to create something entirely new. In this case, Martinez, creates wearable art in the form of pins, magnets, prints and greeting cards.

This piece called Long Lady is from a series called AzTechna. It is a piece made from "mixed media" as Martinez likes to call it. It is mixed because of the different types of media she uses such as discarded computer circuit boards. I like this piece and the artist in particular because she reuses old materials and creates new life out of them.

The second artist/s that has interested me is the piece by artists Bell Diaz and Kenia Gutierrez.Their art is primarily feminist activist works. From their activist works I truly admired the work they have done to raise awareness about the femicides happening in Juarez, Mexico. This picture is from the artists Heart of Art exhibition space and it depicts the artists activist work in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico regarding the femicides.
