Blog 10: Reflection

Spending the fall in this Chicana artist class has exceeded my expectations. When I first started this class, in the beginning I thought this class would be somewhat challenging. Not only was I nervous of starting this class, this was also my first quarter at UCLA. After looking back at it now, the nervousness was all normal, and I was able to settle in quickly with the help of a nice professor like Alma Lopez. Also the fact that this class was for beginners and non-artist, made things even better. I have not drawn anything in over 10 years prior to this class, and looking back at my drawings in the beginning to looking at them now, I definitely see the difference. Drawing my hand without looking was the most challenging thing that I had to do in this class. In the beginning of the class I did not know of a single Chicana artist, and here I am at the end of the quarter, and I can name at least ten Chicana artist. I have learned about many great Chicana artist, their art, and where they get their motivation from. As a non-artist, I look at art with a new set of eyes. When I look at art work now, I can now analyze the piece and try to figure out what it means. It was a real great and fun experience being in this class this quarter, and I would like to say thank you Alma Lopez.
