I feel I learned a lot in this class and
enjoyed fining things I did not know before. For example, I used to have an
image that arts by Chicana artists tend to be created with vivid color and thick
lines. But learning about many artists and looking at different images made me
realize that their forms of art are various and the massages they put in their
works are different. It was interesting to look close to those images and find
the meanings imbedded in the images through symbols. Before I take this class, I
did not even know about the indigenous features so I could not understand the
significance of the images. But now I know about the characteristics related to
the indigenous cultures and important icons such as La Virgin de Guadalupe. This
not only expanded my understanding of works by Chinana artists but also
encouraged myself to think about my own culture. Chicana artists faced
situations which made them think about discrimination and their identity so
that their arts reflect their feelings to deliver certain messages. I was born
in Japan which is relatively considered a homogeneous society so I have not
faced any conflict in my identity. In this sense, I think the arts by Chicana
artists are strong and beautiful, as I could see many attractive and
independent women in their arts.
Thank you my professor, and have a good
winter break, everyone.
