Reflection

This was my first time taking a Chicana class that relates to Chicana art and artists. While taking this course this quarter, I have learned many new aspects of Chicana art and artists that I was unfamiliar with prior to taking this course. I have learned that la Virgen de Guadalupe is a significant figure used in Chicana art and many artists we have discussed in this class portray la Virgen de Guadalupe in their work. I also became familiar with Chicana artists and I greatly enjoyed learning about the different types of art that these artists focus on. Additionally, I learned about the different types of mediums that are used in art, and it was interesting to see how different art pieces use specific types of mediums.

Thinking about the beginning of this course up until today, I can proudly say that I have gained a significant amount of information that is vital within not only Chicana art, but also the Chicana culture. Learning about the different values that the Chicana culture holds, I can see how these values are portrayed in their art. I am glad that I had the opportunity to take this course and professor Lopez did an excellent job instructing it.
