This is the blog for the UCLA Chicanx Latinx Art and Artists course offered by the Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicanx Central American Studies (CCAS M175, also Art M184 and World Arts and Cultures M128). This course provides a historical and contemporary overview of Chicanx Latinx art production with an emphasis on painting, photography, prints, murals and activist art.

The artist I will be presenting on next week is Favianna Rodirguez, a printmaker. I would like to focus on the production of social justice posters. The one featured above Migration is Beautiful is a very powerful and beautiful design that hits close to home for me and the millions of other migrants who have moved or been displaced into this country and around the world. Although I have not started on the research of the artist herself, I think this piece speaks a larger narrative of the histories of displacement from the rest of North, Central, and South America. I look forward to exploring the rest of her work under the social justice lens that she produces.
